Program: After-School and Summer Programming (Following

Bridgeport Public School Calendar)

Location: Remote

Expected Commitment: Approximately 5–8 hours per week, with

hours varying around application deadlines

Compensation: Anticipated equivalent of $35–$50 per hour

Reports To: Operations Manager

As Urban Impact continues to expand its programs, we are seeking a skilled and dependable grant writer to help identify funding opportunities, prepare strong proposals, and support ongoing grant management.

Position Overview

The Grant Writer & Funding Development Specialist will research aligned funding opportunities, develop and submit grant applications, maintain grant records and deadlines, and assist with reports and renewals.

The Grant Writer will work closely with the Operations Manager, who will provide grant-readiness support, organizational data, internal materials, and oversight throughout the application and reporting process.

Core Responsibilities

Grant Research and Strategy

  • Research foundation, corporate, government, and other funding opportunities aligned with Urban Impact’s mission and programs.
  • Evaluate opportunities for eligibility, organizational fit, competitiveness, and required capacity.
  • Maintain an organized grant pipeline and calendar of application, reporting, and renewal deadlines.
  • Recommend funding opportunities based on organizational priorities and program needs.
  • Identify grant opportunities that require or would benefit from collaborative partnerships and advise
  • leadership on potential partnership needs, eligibility requirements, and application strategy.

Proposal Development and Submission

  • Write and edit letters of inquiry, grant applications, proposals, renewal requests, and related funding
  • materials.
  • Tailor applications to each funder’s priorities, requirements, and evaluation criteria.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager, Executive Director, and program staff to gather program information, budgets, outcomes, stories, and supporting documents.
  • Develop clear and compelling narratives that accurately communicate Urban Impact’s mission, programs, community relationships, and impact.
  • Coordinate application components, incorporate internal feedback, and ensure complete and timely
  • submissions.
  • Support collaborative grant applications by coordinating required information, letters of support,
  • partnership documentation, and shared proposal components with approved community partners.

Grant Tracking and Reporting

  • Maintain organized records of applications, supporting documents, awards, agreements, and funder
  • correspondence.
  • Track application outcomes, grant commitments, and reporting requirements.
  • Support the preparation of grant reports, renewal applications, and funder updates.
  • Provide regular updates on upcoming deadlines, pending applications, awards, and reporting needs.
  • Help maintain reusable organizational language, program descriptions, outcome statements, and
  • commonly requested documents.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience writing grant proposals, funding requests, or comparable persuasive materials.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and research skills.
  • Ability to interpret grant guidelines and determine organizational alignment.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to gather information from multiple staff members and develop a cohesive final submission.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating proactively and incorporating feedback.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and shared electronic document systems.
  • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of organizational, financial, staff, and participant
  • information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years of grant-writing, fundraising, nonprofit development, or related experience.
  • Successful experience developing foundation, corporate, state, or federal grant applications.
  • Experience working with youth development, education, community-based, human-services, or faith-based organizations.
  • Experience with grant budgets, reporting, compliance, or outcome measurement.
  • Knowledge of Bridgeport, Fairfield County, or Connecticut-based funding opportunities.
