Job Title: Sheet Metal Fabricator

Job Description

This role focuses on fabricating custom ductwork for HVAC systems in a dedicated HVAC duct shop, supporting both internal projects and external customer work. You will work with a variety of fabrication and machine shop equipment to produce accurate, high-quality sheet metal components that meet precise specifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate fabrication shop and machine shop machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Read and interpret job specifications, blueprints, and layouts to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
• Position workpieces against stops or align layout marks with dies or blades to ensure accurate cutting and forming.
• Activate machines and closely monitor operations to detect defects, malfunctions, or safety concerns.
• Measure workpiece dimensions using appropriate tools to verify accuracy and adherence to specifications.
• Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpieces to ensure clean, finished components.
• Perform minor machine maintenance, including oiling machines, dies, and workpieces, to keep equipment in good working order.
• Set up fabrication and machine shop equipment for production runs and perform routine maintenance as needed.
• Perform burning work and other fabrication tasks required to complete HVAC ductwork and related sheet metal products.
• Work collaboratively with team members in a fast-paced shop environment to meet production schedules and quality standards.

Essential Skills

• 6 months to 5 years of related experience in construction, mechanical work, HVAC, or sheet metal fabrication.
• Hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication processes and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and job specifications.
• Proficiency in operating press brakes and other fabrication machinery.
• Experience working in the HVAC industry.
• Ability to accurately read a ruler and tape measure.
• Skilled in the use of hand tools for fabrication work.
• Basic welding and fabrication abilities.
• Machine operating experience in a shop environment.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Valid Virginia drivers license.
• Ability to pass a Bkgrd check and pre-employment drug screening.
• U.S. work authorization.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to follow instructions and safety procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.

Work Environment

This position is based in a pre-fabrication shop that is not climate-controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons. Work is performed on a day shift schedule in a production-oriented environment using fabrication and machine shop equipment such as press brakes, welding tools, hand tools, and measuring devices. The role requires comfort working in a busy, fast-paced shop setting, adherence to safety procedures, and appropriate work attire suitable for an industrial environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashland, VA.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashland, VA.
